“I don’t merely teach my pupils; I attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.”~Albert EinsteinAmerican history for me is not just memorizing a bunch of facts that you will only forget the next day. Together we will ask “why things happened” or “how they changed history” and investigate American history throughout the year.To start the year I want you to watch the following video clip and post a comment to the the question:How do you think this clip relates to my class?
August 21st, 2007 at 3:59 pm
it seems like someone forgot to study. it relates to the class because that’s all about history.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I think it was very funny and I have watched that show before. I think it relates to your class because it is about the constitution of the United States which we will be learning about and possibly learn the whole thing.
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:53 pm
I agree with Mitch. I think it is also funny. I seen parts of that show before. I think it relates to your class because it is about a person who does not know the whole constitution of the United States which might stand for your students and there was a person who did know it and he might stand for you the teacher.
August 25th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
I think that was funny, and I think that relates to class because that was the Preamble of the Constitution which is History.
August 27th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
i enjoyed the video on youtube i’ve seen it before and i think it relates to your class becaus its about the constituation og the united states.
August 27th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
I think that the video is funny and that it is like history class, we all think we know all the answers but we really don’t and you will have to help us answer the question.I belive that later in history class you will help us to learn and relatete to the constitution.
August 27th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
I’ve had to watch that with my parents before…….it’s never been that funny!! It was halirous! It relates to History because it was black and white instead of color, it was talking about the constition, and them talking is history!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:00 pm
I thought that video was really funny. It teaches you that you don’t always remember stuff after awile and you have to keep studying until you get it. the key to school is to study and do your best and if you do you will hopefully do well. it also relates to history class because the are resiting the preamble and that is history. Also it relates to history class because if you don’t remember something somebody like Mr. Moe or a friend can always help you study and understand. Mr. Moe you rock!!!!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
I thought that the man was a big idiot, but he was very funny. It talked a little bit about the constitution, but the man was trying to memorize the constitution. I thought it was so funny. I like black and white comentaries because I think it makes is more funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I think that this movie relates to Mr. Moe’s history class because it is about a person who tries to memorize the premable to the Constitution. Mr. Moe doesn’t want us to just memorize things so that we can say them in class, but actually comprehend and understand what we are reading. He wants us to know the information, not memorize the text.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
It means to not just memorize the facts and forget it the next day, but to understand it and know it through out your life.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
I think this movie was really funny. I think that the connection to our class is that we’re not going to try and memorize everything because it won’t stay in our heads.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Connor Reynolds:
I think it relates to your class because it is about the constitution which is a historical event, and I think it was funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
I like this video. i t has to do with our class because like Andy did for the other guy we will back each other up on what we say. and maybe that it has to do with history!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:32 pm
I think it relates to your class because the guy did not no the constitution. the constitutionis history so that kind of means he did not study history. That is why i think it relates to your class.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
I think someone should study a bit longer. It realates to your class because you give us good study tips and we write them down and we get a good grade on a test just like the guy gave him all the anserws. It also relates to your class because we are going to study historical events just like he was. THAT WAS A GREAT FILM AND IT DOES RELATE TO CLASS!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
I think this video relates to your class because sometimes you ask us to memorize something, we study it. And then we’re like “Ok, i know it.” But then we can’t think of the first word!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
the clip was funny and it relates to are class because you need to keep on studying and you need to remember it so when you take a test you might ace it. It had something to do about the americain history.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
I have also watched that show and thout it was funny. I think it relates to your history class because that reminds us to study and not to skip the book or note reading.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
I thought that video was very funny and that it does relate to class because we don’t want to just learn it but understand it and know it were you wont forget it. At the end he said you learn something you learn it but obliviously thats not true because he learned it but didn’t remember it. so you should know it so you will remember it. Thats how it relates to class.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
i thought the video was so funny! It related to your class because if you try to memorize something than there’s a HUGE change you will forget it and sometimes you need help to remember. Plus its about a constutution(i think i spelled that wrong! srry) which is history which we are studying!
August 27th, 2007 at 4:45 pm
I have also scene the shoe and i think it reminds us to study and to do our home work and our reading, so when it is a quiz day we pull out our notes and nothing is there.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
I have also scene the show and I think it reminds us to study and to do our home work and our reading, so when it is a quiz day we pull out our notes and nothing is there.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
I think that it has to do with history because we shouldn’t just memorize things we should understand them too.
August 27th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
I think that it was really funny. I also think that it is related to your class because you said that you don’t like us to memorize things or just read from the text book, because we would just forget it the next day. Just like the guy did in the clip.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
I think that this video relates to our history class because that man obviously just memorized the preamble for the test and then forgot it. He didn’t comprehend it or dig deeper for the true meaning of it. Mr. Moe wants us to understand what we’re learning, not just read and memorize for the test or to say in front of the class.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
I think you chose this clip because it puts some humor into the class, but I think the imporance of it that it has to do with history and that history can pay of in the long run.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
The man just memorized it and never really understood it. I think Mr. Morrison wants us not to memorize it, but truly understand it and dig deeper and totally print in our minds.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
i think it realates to our class because one of the reasons we study history is so that we dont look stupid lika that and we know what we’re talking about. I also thought it was funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
I think that this relates to our class because you learn something, forget it the next day. Har Har. did you know thers a barny song in there? *shiver*
August 27th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
I think it helps you understand that you need to know it not just memorize it. There is no resson to memorize it if you don’t know what it means.
August 27th, 2007 at 5:36 pm
I think that this clip relates to your class because
you tell us not to just memorize the facts, but to learn and understand them because if we just memorize them the next day we will forget
them. And that guy was trying to memorize the facts and look what happend to him, he forgot them.It was also really funny!
August 27th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
I think that this video relates to class because it is about the Preamble to the Constitution. It also relates to class because it is about forgetting things and not always getting things right. I was really funnny!
August 27th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
I think it relates to the class because it teaches you thst you don’t hve to memorize it you just have to understand it. That was hilarious.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
As shown in clip, the older you get (no offense Mr. Moe!) the more likely you are to forget somethng you learned as a child. Therefore, I think it is important to jog your memory every now and then so that you don’t forget something important.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
I think that this relates to our class because in history there is so much to learn and sometimes if you think you’ve memorized your info you don’t really know what it’s about. So you need to study really hard in order to learn the information. I also think the clip was really funny and entertaining.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
I think this relates to class because it shows that you can’t just learn the facts because you’ll forget them. If you really understand the stuff then you’ll remember it.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
i think this relates to the class because it could have been one of us which would have meant that we hadnt really put it into our minds but just memorized the fact and failed the assignment. it cracked me up!!
August 27th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Ha ha. Very cute Nicole, I’ll give you that. N ot all of us can do that you know!!! Showoff…..
August 27th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Ha ha. Very cute Nicole, I’ll give you that. Not all of us can do that you know!!! Showoff…..
August 27th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
I think this means that you do not have to memorize anything from the book because you would forget it the next day and it would be useless. If you want to memorize it you would have to study for a long time and go over it a lot. The clip was funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I really liked this clip because I have seen this show with my mom before. I think that it realates to our class because as we saw you do not just memorize things and know them for the rest of your life. You want us to know things about history and what we learned in your class for the rest of our lives. You can do that by doing intresting things, and doing intresting things, and making us want to learn about the history of our country. together you want our class to have fun while learning, instead of just forcing ourselves to memorize something for a test, and forgeting what we learned a week later.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I think that the clip relates to our history class because Mr. Morrison is not trying to just teach us facts, because if he does that then we will just forget them in a couple of years, and they won’t mean anything to us. But, if he teaches us about big ideas, example, how people have changed the world, then we will be able to take away from those ideas, and relate those ideas to our own lives, and they will mean something to us.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
I think this clip relates to the class because, Mr. Morrison doesn’t just have us memorize things, because we will forget them eventually. He wants us to understand them so they will stay with us and we will have a better chance of remembering it. It is important to know and understand the text, but you don’t have to memorize it. If we just memorize the text, we’re not really understanding it, and not taking the time to really think about it to relate it to things that we have experienced.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
That is really funny. Ive seen that show alot. I think that clip was related to our class becaus Barney studied and memorized the Constitution years before but he did not learn it . Thats what you want us to do . you want us to learn it not memorize it for the test or quiz and then foget it the next day.
August 27th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
I thought that it was really funny. It showed that after a long period of time, sometimes you forget what you learned. Sometimes you need someone to help you out when you can’t remember what to say or what to do. It can turn out to be really funny sometimes if you are really trying.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
i really liked this film and it was very funny. it relates to the class because you dont just read the book and memorize it, because if you just read the information , you will forget what you read the next day. it also relates to the class because one of the guys was reciting the preamble and that relates to history too. You are the coolies S.S teacher i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!
August 27th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
I think this clip relates to your class because you want us to learn the material and not just memorize it. When you just memorize something then you will just forget it in the next few weeks. Or you could think you have it memorize and come the class like the next and you had already forgotten the material. But that won’t happen in your class because you expect us to write the material down. I don’t know if you were aiming for this but sometimes when a person writes something in let’s say a notebook there able to remember it more. Witch makes me think that maybe, plus having such a good teacher like you, when were at the age of the man form the clip. We might just be able to remember the clip. That’s the message I thought you were trying to display in this clip
August 27th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
I think that the clip relates to your class becuase he said that he memorized it but than forgot it. You said to us that you want us to not just memorize everything, you also want us to learn it and understand it. You also said that you didn’t like memorizing things, you said that it would take a little time and practice to actually learn it. Memorizing is good, but will you actually learn it.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
I thought that the video was very ammusing. It relates to your class because I shows that learning facts usualy just shows that you know the facts. Sometimes you don’t know what the facts mean, and some times you just forget them. If you have fun with what you’re learning and it really means something to you or you have some sort of connection to it, then you’re pobly less likely to forget it.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
I think it was funny but you told us that we had to get into history not just memorise it. the movie clip is history because it was made in the past. the constitution is a great peice of american history but I dont think that the fact that the consitution was mentioned is what mr morrison is getting at. I think that he was trying to get at the fact that he just tryed to memorise it and then he forgot it and that’s exactly what mr. morrison does not want to happen. I think that if he was in mr. morrison’s class he would have not have to memorise the constitution but learn why it was writen and how it helped make america what it is today. and when the guy said once you learn it you learn it at the end might be important.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
I think that it shows that it’s harder to remember the excact words that learning their meaning. I also thought it was really funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
sorry, I forgot my last name, it’s above this
August 27th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
I think this video relates to history class, because it was about the constitution. The constitution is very important to us learning history.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
this clip involves history because when the guy learned the constitution is history good thingthe contstitution was written down so he didn’t have to remember it (write down your history)
August 27th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
That was a little funny but it was mostly weird. I’ve never been a fan of that black ‘n’ white, humor kind of stuff. But i see why u wanted us to watch it. It is about the Constitution and it shows what we’re going to be doing. Learning, memorizing and having fun on the way. Which is exactly the opposite of what that guy did i presume…
August 27th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
This clip realates to your class because Barney was trying to memorize the Constitution and you said it is not just trying to memorize things it is about learning it and remembering the information and not forgetting it.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
he really needs to study! i think this video relates to history because history really isn”t about memorizing a bunch of facts. It”s really about understanding it and following great people but not following their mistakes. i thought that video was funny.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
I think that video was funny. I think it relates to our class because we will be learning this the entire year. Learning the United States Constitution is important because our younger syblings won’t know this and we might have to teach them.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
this video is about how this police officer is supposed to memorize the preamble of the unitied states contstatution. and in history we need to be able to know all the facts and somtimes memorize a ” “. i think it relates to your class because we need to be able to memorize some ” ” from the text book or from you. Like the police officer said he memorized it but he forgot it and he coundn’t tell the sherrif and if we can’t memorize somthing we would miss it on a test kinda like he did.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
I think this clip relates to class because it’s about the constitution. But like Mr. Moe always says “History is not just learning facts because you’ll forget them the next day.” So It’s like that being right after he had to use the info he forgot it.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
I think that the clip rrelates to our class because no only does it talk about the Constitution, but shows that everyone forgets. When someone forgets something we should not make fun or laugh bcause everyone forgets sometimes. Like Mr. Moe said, you should not get stressed out about that kind of stuff and just ask for help.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
It’s hard to just be given a text book and have a teacher say “Memorize these ten pages…we’ll have a quiz on this in two days. If you memorized it and thentook the test and aced it, I bet that if you took the test the next day, you would flunk!
This shows that you have to put the information into your mindfor safe keeping. Your brain thinks that the textbook information that youmemorized, is disposable and that you don’t need it anymore! For tips on future history teachers that bore you to death, think of the text book as a story book. Make the book tell a story in your head. Don’t you still remember a book or two that you read last year? Here’s question: Do you remember a History test that you took last year? I think I know why… Most of the time, a storybook is more interesting than a big, boring textbook!
August 27th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
I think that it relates to your class because it shows that you have to study hard and it shows that humor is a great way to learn social studies
August 27th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
The video was a total laugh I think this relates to history because you will ought to forget everything you read from the textbook rather than understanding the text itself
Don Knotts plays Ralph Furley from an old tv show.
August 28th, 2007 at 6:40 am
This video was very entertaining, I think it helped us understand that History isn’t just memorizing stuff but it’s learning the facts and enjoying the fascination.
August 28th, 2007 at 7:01 am
I think tht movie relates to history as not just remembering tons of facts and forgetting them after the test, but it is supposed to guide you and help us understand history better than we already know it.
August 28th, 2007 at 7:02 am
It shows that history can be fun[ny] and relates to your class because sometimes kids might say they can do something and then they can’t without help on every word.
